Puri Karangasem

The project had a simple premise but multiple functions. Primarily, it is to archive the history and culture of Bali, especially of the noble house of Karangasem. Besides information and photos, the site also needed a online store to sell dvds & books, as well as a calendar of events. The client also clued us in on the history of Bali and her religions.

The design approach was to treat the site as an ongoing part of ‘history’ – the palaces are being renovated, a museum is in the pipeline, the descendants of the Karangasem family are making new events along this timeline. Hence, we took care not to give the website an antiquated look (as if time has stopped still), but to make it contemporary. The end result is a fluid site which adopt the Bali colors and the concept of trinity in Hinduism.
